Product Description

By Geri-Ann Galanti, PhD, a teacher, speaker, author and leading expert in the field of cultural diversity. She has been on the faculty of the School of Nursing at CSU Dominguez Hills, and the Department of Psychiatry at the David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California, Los Angeles.

Foreword by Michael S. Woods, MD, MMM, a senior physician leader, safety culture expert, and author of several books on effective patient and caregiver communication and a consultant with Health Catalyst

“When it comes to health care, the Western world has great technology and dedicated, intelligent health care staff, but these advantages are lost if patients can’t understand the “why” and “what” of their care.”

-From the Foreword

It’s undeniable that understanding a patient’s cultural practices and spiritual beliefs influence not only the delivery of health care in our global society, but also the individual’s outcome and satisfaction. If a patient, because of a cultural or spiritual “disconnect,” can’t appreciate what is being prescribed or why it’s necessary, or if the information is delivered in a way that inadvertently frightens, offends, or confuses the patient, how can we fulfill our mission as health care providers?

This revised and expanded edition of the Cultural and Religious Sensitivity Pocket Guide includes new content that focuses on the importance of awareness of not only a patient’s cultural background but also his or her religious beliefs to provide patient-centered health care. The Pocket Guide continues to offer health care professionals the information they need to successfully communicate with their patients, while also respecting their specific cultural and religious needs and expectations related to health care.

Find the information you need quickly in this guide, which fits neatly into a lab coat pocket and features tabs to take you to the information you need when you need it--at the patient's bedside, before a patient and family consultation, or whenever you are interacting with patients. This is the guide you'll turn to again and again to improve your patient-centered care. Purchase copies for all your staff so that everyone can deliver the highest quality, culturally and spiritually sensitive care and services.
