The JCI Accreditation Standards for Home Care, 2nd Edition has been updated to increase the focus quality improvement and patient safety and to reflect the latest science and best practices in home care. The standards in the 2nd Edition manual are divided into two main sections: 1) patient-centered care and 2) home care organization management.

Highlights of Changes in the Standards Manual

  • Chapter titles and concepts have been reorganized to be consistent with other JCI accreditation manuals, such as the Hospital 7th Edition
  • Introduced requirements for improving the safety of reporting critical results, and handover communication
  • Developed and implemented a process to improve the safety of look-alike/sound-alike medications
  • Developed and implemented a process to identify and address health care-associated infections
  • Increased focus on improving the continuum of care
  • Increased focus on patient centered care
  • Detailed explanations added to the Medication Management and Use (MMU) chapter to help organizations understand what standards and measurable elements apply depending on what type of pharmaceutical services are provided
