Product Description

Product Description

Joint Commission International Standards for Clinical Care Program Certification, 4th Edition, is designed to help organizations learn about and prepare for the JCI survey process. Joint Commission International (JCI) standards define the performance expectations, structures, and functions that must be in place for an organization to achieve clinical care program certification.
This manual contains two major sections:
  1. Certification Participation Requirements (Section I), which outline specific requirements for participating in certification and maintaining a certification award
  2. Standards related to providing patient care (Section II)
With the second section, the standards are divided into chapters. The standards are organized around the important functions common to all health care organizations—an approach widely used around the world that has been validated by scientific study, testing, and application. Each standard includes an intent and measurable elements. The intent describes the rationale for the standard and provides examples (when applicable) on the application of the standards. The measurable elements are the specific requirements of the standard. In addition to the standards chapters, an introduction, the eligibility requirements, the Certification Participation Requirements (CPR), a summary of key certification policies, and a glossary are included.
Key Features of the Standards Manual:
  • Eligibility Requirements, including a new JCI Clinical Practice Guidelines Process with a focus on the following five categories:
  1. DISEASE: Identification of the program’s disease, target population and scope of services
  2. SCIENCE: Identification of the clinical practice guidelines related to the disease and its care, treatment, and services for the target population
  3. EVALUATE: Program leader(s) evaluation of clinical practice guidelines
  4. APPROVAL: Program leader(s) and interdisciplinary committee members approval process for clinical practice guidelines adoption
  5. REPEAT: Annual review of clinical practice guidelines and consideration of new evidence
  • Summary of changes serves as a tracking guide for the changes made since the 3rd edition
  • Certification Participation Requirements (CPRs)
  • Chapter titles to differentiate certification standard requirements from accreditation standard requirements
  • Chapter overviews describing the focus of each chapter
  • Standards list serves as a reference for the numbering of standards and the topics covered
  • Updated and new references providing evidence and support for key topics in the standards
  • Detailed explanations throughout the Intent Statements to provide organizations with key information about the application of the standards and measurable elements to clinical care practices.
